Legendary New York producer MK drops a mix of rare dubs, forgotten classics and a few unreleased exclusives, ahead of his set for us at the inaugural Eastern Electrics festival on Saturday 4th August (alongside Kerri Chandler, Joy Orbison, Julio Bashmore, Boddika and Bicep).
With an aesthetic closer to the New York / Chicago sound, than his native Detroit, MK’s work became ubiquitous in the early to mid 90s with tracks like ‘Burning’ becoming essential listening almost immediately and his remix work for both The Nightcrawlers and Jodeci finding there way onto mainstream playlists and charts around the world.
MK’s work from around this time established a template that many UK producers applied to their work, which became one of the core elements of what was to become UK garage.
Featuring work by everyone from Masters At Work, Kevin Saunderson and Cajmere, to Jamie Jones, Lana Del Rey and even the Pet Shop Boys – this is a one-off retrospective of his unique output.
